The Lakers are coming off a streak-ending loss to the Miami Heat on Thursday Night in Miami, and will now be heading into another vicious road challenge against the Western Conference’s #2 seed. The Jazz traded away their star point guard Deron Williams, while the Celtics traded Kendrick Perkins to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Jeff Green. The Celtics players were stunned by the Kendrick Perkins trade, and it was evident as they came out later that evening and lost by 14 points to the Denver Nuggets.

The Dallas Mavericks (41-15) look to continue their winning ways when they face the Washington Wizards (16-42) at 8:00pm ET on Saturday night in the Verizon Center. The Mavericks are coming off a big win against Utah a couple of nights ago, giving them 14 victories in their last 15 games. The Wizards unfortunately, are moving in the wrong direction. Washington has lost 13 of their previous 15 games and is coming off their latest loss to the Miami Heat. The Wizards hung in there and only trailed by two points at halftime against Miami, but the Heat were able to pull away late in the game.

The New York Knicks pulled off a complex, three-team deal that will bring Carmelo Anthony to his hometown, thus greatly improving New York’s 2011 NBA Championship Odds. The Knicks are ready to make a charge within the Eastern Conference as they are in second place in the Atlantic Division behind the Boston Celtics. This deal has been a distraction for plenty of teams but Anthony finally got the deal he was looking for. The Knicks offered Anthony a contract over the All-Star break and from what it seems, they said all the right things.

With the season turning the corner towards the playoffs, there are several teams whose odds to win the 2011 NBA Championship have strengthened significantly. The defending champion Los Angeles Lakers (+425) remains the favorites in the Western Conference, even though they have been outperformed by the upstart San Antonio Spurs (+500). In the East, the two teams that have been favored since the beginning of the season are still the top two teams to beat.
