Considering the 2012 Preakness Stakes will consist of a good portion of the same horse that competed at the Kentucky Derby, but on a much shorter track, makes the “Second Jewel of the Triple Crown” that much more exciting. Of course, everyone is and will be talking about the rematch between KY Derby winner I’ll Have Another versus Bodemeister.
In many peoples’ eyes, Bodemeister will have the advantage when running a shorter distance because of his sprinting and speed advantage. However, according to 2012 Preakness Stakes early future odds, both Bodemeister [+300] and I’ll Have Another [+300] are listed with the exact same odds to win.
FYI, +300 simply means that if you are willing to bet $300 bucks on either of these horses, SBGGlobal is willing to pay you $300 on your investment. So what are you waiting for? Bet now by making good use of OSH’s 2012 Preakness picks!
"After the race, I thought he'd be completely wiped out," said Bodemeister trainer Bob Baffert. "He cooled out pretty quick and was eating his hay in front of his stall. I was afraid he was going to go into hibernation for about three days in the corner of his stall with his ears pinned, sulking. But he never did.
"He's a pretty tough, amazing animal. His hair looks good. His weight looks good. Right now I don't see any reason not to take him."
Personally, I couldn’t agree more with Baffert. Bodemeister is the horse to beat on Saturday at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. The fact that he got off to a great start and set at blistering pace up until the final turn tells me that a repeat performance would easily win the 9.5 furlongs.
I like Bodemeister so much that I am in fact making him my personal 2012 Preakness Stakes early future odds favorite. Just think about it like this: Bodemeister had a three-lengths lead heading down the stretch in the last 100 yards -- before I’ll Have Another caught up to him -- as he ran the opening quarter in :22.32 seconds and a half in :45.39 at the Kentucky Derby.
"Think about this, Bob keeps reminding me, three weeks before that (race) we didn't have a horse in the Derby," said Bodemeister’s owner, Ahmed Zayat said. "We go from a Grade I to favorite in the Derby. That's a huge accomplishment. So, we were feeling sad because he ran a winner's race and not to get it, you feel bad for the horse. He ran such a brilliant race."
Bodemeister’s meteoric rise has been a spectacular one, which should end with a victory this Saturday night. The 2012 Preakness Stakes is scheduled to take place on May 19th at 6:05 PM ET and it’ll be broadcasted live on NBC Sports.
