On a matchup that would make any “Wizard of Oz” fan smile, we will have Lions and Bears headline this week’s edition of Monday Night Football picks. This week 7 NFC North battle is scheduled to get underway tonight at 8:30 PM ET from Soldier Field in Chitown, IL, and it’ll be broadcast live on ESPN.

According to NFL betting oddsmakers, the hosting (4-1) Chicago Bears [-6.5] will enter this game as favorites by just under a touchdown and a point after over the (2-3) Detroit Lions [+6.5]. The OVER/UNDER for this contest is set at a combined total of 47 points.

For the visiting Lions, this team hasn’t been able to duplicate the success they enjoyed last season when they made it to the playoffs for the first time in twelve years. Despite having one of the highest scoring offenses in the league, surprisingly it has been the Lions defense that has let them down.

Going into week 7, Detroit’s D has surrendered an average of 27.4 points per game, which ranks 27th in the NFL. On top of that, quarterback Matthew Stafford (136-218, 1493 yards, 4 TDs, 5 INTs) has yet to find his groove offensively, and the name they call Megatron, Calvin Johnson has looked more like a Micro-Machine at this point (35 receptions, 558 yards, 1 TD).

For the hosting Bears, their season thus far has been almost the exact opposite of that of the Lions. Chicago’s defense comes in ranked first in the league in points (14.2) and rushing yards (65.8) allowed per game. Offensively, is where this team is most vulnerable and perhaps the area that the Lions can exploit. Their best statistics by far is that they possess the ability to put points on the board (Rank 3rd: 29.8 ppg), and can run the ball effectively (Rank 9th: 123.6 rypg). Other than that, the offense ranks below average in both the passing game (Rank 22nd: 222.2 pypg) and total yards per game (Rank 21st: 346.2).
