BYU Cougars 2010 College Football Predictions - 2011 BCS Odds: After losing 11 starters and a quarterback from a surprising #15 ranked 11-2 team the BYU Cougars should be rebuilding in theory. The Cougars have plenty of new replacements with upside to fulfill their potential as the season wear along. BYU potentially will have enough offensive weaponry to go toe-to-toe with all their MWC foes by seasons end with the passing game instead of the run. Our College Football Picks staff is projecting a fall from the 11.0 win total but still a solid 9+ win season from a cast of young talent and super sized offensive lineman.

The 2010 BYU Cougars 2011 BCS Odds are listed at 125-1 on the College Football Betting Futures at BODOG.COM.

2010 College Football Predictions Offense: The Cougars have a QB battle going on between Freshman sensation Jake Heaps against game-managing Jr. Riley Nelson. Both signal-callers project to be mid-level NCAA starters for this season but Heaps could be a stud by seasons end. Heaps is the future and once he gets his chance he could be a special player. A massive O-line should free up plenty of time for the running threat Nelson or the rocket-armed youngster to distribute the pigskin to an array of playmakers. The receiving crew is talented but they will have a learning curve as they go along and a hole to fill at TE. The running game will survive despite losing a starter to the NFL this summer. A new trio of  capable replacements should do a decent enough job despite a slight drop off in production in rushing.

2010 College Football Predictions Defense: BYU’s transition from a former 3-3-5 defense into a legit 3-4 has been impressive. The Cougars ranked 29th in the nation in scoring defense last season and have enough horses to compete in the upper-echelon again. The pass-defense and linebacking groups have some areas of concern . The D-Line without a proven pass-rusher to take the heat of a secondary facing some talented conference foe aerial attacks is a major one. DE Vic So’oto is being asked to fill some big shoes left by graduates but he appears to be a potential impact player as a Senior. The LB corps will return on 1 starter from a strong group. A fresh crop of recruits and transfers are ready tofill the shoes and should not suffer much a drop-off.  The secondary does have some solid players and is led by undersized Senior All-MWC 5’6” CB Brian Logan. Logan is surrounded by a group of experienced and athletic. This projects to be a top-30 NCAA Football Defense.
