Illinois 2010 College Football Predictions - 2011 BCS Odds: After a thoroughly disappointing season Illinois head coach Ron Zook cleaned house in an effort to trigger improvement for 2010. The changes should produce improvement with six new assistants coming to the table with strong resumes. The Fighting Illini returns 14 starters and have some promising talent at skill positions for the new coaches to work with. While a return to a bowl game is a year or so away our college football picks staff is forecasting a five win season.

College Football Predictions Offense: The new pro-style offense will be entrusted in the hands of blue-chip freshman QB Nathan Scheelhaase. Nathan is a scrambler that impressed the coaches in the spring with his grasp of the offense, poise and leadership. Scheelhasse’s learning curve should be made easier by a soft early schedule. Also helping the rookie signal-caller will be a solid rushing and receiving corps. The running game boasts a nice 1-2 punch with bruisers Mikkel LeShoure and Jason Ford. The O-line is not overwhelming but should be adequate. This is a slightly above-average offense.

College Football Predictions Defense: The defense will give a variety of different looks this season. The Fighting Illini should be pretty good against the pass this season with some quality CB’s and an impact pass-rusher in LB Martez Wilson. Wilson has All-American potential and if he can get on track this defense could surprise. A more experienced front-seven should also be tighter against the run. This is one of the most improved defenses in the country and should also be a slightly above-average.

Coaching/Special Teams: Zook has fallen out of favor with the fans but the staff he has in place this season is decent. Special Teams are a sore spot and could cost this team some close games.
