California 2010 College Football Predictions - 2011 BCS Odds: After an up and down 2009 season that resulted in an 8-5 finish the California Bears are aiming for a Pac-10 title. The Bears have some difference makers on both sides of the ball but the question marks about their focus remains. Our College Football Picks staff is forecasting another finish outside of the top-25 and a small-tier bowl berth.

College Football Predictions Offense: Without a proven passing game the offense could struggle with balance. RB Shane Vereen is a stud that will be running behind a veteran O-line but QB Kevin Riley has been wildly inconsistent. Kevin did improve last season and is one of the better QB’s in college football but when he played bad he played really bad. Riley has a legit game-breaker in WR Marvin Jones but the rest of the wideouts are mediocre. This is decent offense but it will struggle against the better defenses of the NCAA.

College Football Predictions Defense: California’s 2009 defense underachieved last season allowing 25.5 points per game but should be moderately better this season. A strong D-line will anchor a 4-3 unit that will have a new D-coordinator in Clancy Pendergast. The back seven has is suspect especially in the secondary but LB Mike Mohamed and FS Sean Cattouse are playmakers. This appears to be a slightly above-average defense.

Coaching/Special Teams: Bears Head coach Jeff Tedford is a upper-echelon sideline boss and new D-coordinator Pendergast should fill in nicely for longtime former coordinator Bob Gregory. Special teams are very-strong with a real weapon in P Bryan Anger.
