Jacksonville Jaguars 2009 NFL Predictions, Win Total & 2010 Super Bowl Odds

Maurice Jones-Drew

Jacksonville Jaguars 2009 NFL Predictions, Win Total & 2010 Super Bowl Odds: One of the worst things a football team can do is a read their own press clippings. That is precisely what happened to the Jacksonville Jaguars last season when they fell on their faces with a 5-11 season after going 12-4 in 07’. Change was necessary and Jacksonville head coach Jack Del Rio has brought in 6 new starters and a new defensive coordinator. Del Rio better hope for a quick turnaround or else he could end up resting with the fishes off the Florida coast as a football coach. The NFL predictions odds for the Jacksonville Jaguars to win the 2010 Super Bowl is listed at 38-1 odds at Sportsbook.com.

Jacksonville lost their all-time leading rusher in Fred Taylor last season and will rely mostly on RB Maurice Jones-Drew to power the offense. Jones-Drew is a punishing runner that has excellent hands out of the backfield, but Jones-Drew has durability and fumbling issues. The O-Line was awful last year but some strong aciquistions should solidify the unit. The passing game is of the dink and dunk variety with ball-control styled QB David Garrard. Garrard is a durable and athletic player, but he is not much of a leader and has limited field vision. The wideout corps is not going to scare anyone without a true difference maker. The NFL predictions odds for the Jacksonville Jaguars to win the AFC championship is at 18-1 odds.

The Jacksonville defense once was one of the main factors to their success and seems to have taken a few steps back in recent years. Jaguars Head Coach Jack Del Rio is a smash-mouth type of coach that depends on his defenders to keep games low-scoring. Last year Jacksonville ranked 21st in points allowed and showed weaknesses across the board. Jacksonville still has a playmaking big man in the middle with DT John Henderson, but the loss of run-stuffing DT Marcus Stroud next to him was felt last year.  Now a leadership void must be filled at MLB with the loss of Mike Peterson. The secondary has playmaking skills with stud FS Reggie Nelson leading the charge but has underachieved overall.

For Jacksonville to return to the playoffs they will need for their team chemistry and defense to raise up a few notches.  QB David Garrard is a solid player but does not adjust well when things around him break down. The key on the offensive side of the football will be for the O-Line to keep Garrard’s jersey clean. With many questions unanswered going into the season it is hard to imagine Jacksonville winning more than 6 games in the tough AFC South. The  NFL predictions odds on the season Win Total for the Jacksonville Jaguars is at 8.0 Wins.
