Oakland Raiders 2009 NFL Predictions, Win Total & 2010 Super Bowl Odds: New Oakland Raiders head coach Tom Cable will have his work cut out for him. Cable earned the Raiders head coaching job with a late 3-3 stretch run in 2008. The Over\Under on how long Cable lasts however should be limited to games rather than years. Psychotic Raiders owner Al Davis has fired 4 coaches in the past 4 years, and last year’s Lane Kiffin firing was the biggest circus of all. Oakland has a slew of underachieving, overpriced players that  Davis has handpicked. The men in black have averaged a pathetic 4 wins per season over the last 6 seasons, and 2009 will be no different. The NFL predictions odds for the Oakland Raiders to win the 2010 Super Bowl is listed at 75-1 odds at Sportsbook.com.

Hall-Of-Fame QB Dan Marino once said that when you play QB in the NFL you know pretty quickly if you are going to be good or not. Some QB’s have the “goods” and some don’t. Raiders QB JaMarcus Russell has some tools, but he doesn’t have the “goods”.  Oakland ranked dead last in passing last season despite Davis’s love for throwing the deep ball. Oakland has some speed demons at wideout but few good “ballplayers”. TE Zach Miller has good hands and runs excellent routes, but Russell is one of the most inaccurate passers in the game. The running game has a trio of excellent backs in Darren McFadden, Justin Fargas and Michael Bush. The problem is getting all three enough touches to keep them happy. The O-Line is spotty, but they do a decent job in run blocking. The NFL predictions odds for the Oakland Raiders to win the AFC championship is at 40 -1 odds.

Oakland annually struggles against the run, often allowing opposing RB’s to waltz into the end-zone virtually untouched.   The 4-3 defense rarely blitzes and relies on a mediocre core of linemen to apply pressure. Middle linebacker Kirk Morrison is the leader of the Oakland defense with his vocal presence and playmaking instincts.  Alongside Morrison is another talented player in OLB Thomas Howard, who plays sideline to sideline and could have a breakout year. The secondary has a lockdown cover corner in Nnamdi Asomugha. With the rest of the secondary being average, teams rarely even throw to Asomugha’s side of the field. Special Teams are a strength for Oakland with the NFL’s best punter in Shane Lechler.

Oakland has a chance to have some success simply because they play in the faint-hearted AFC West. The Raiders have some star quality studs on both sides of the football, but the team chemistry is always terrible. Al Davis has this team in shambles, and his blind faith in QB JaMarcus Russell will again leave this team in the gutter. The NFL predictions odds on the season Win Total for the Oakland Raiders is listed at 5.5 WINS.
