Pittsburgh Steelers 2009 NFL Predictions, Win Total & 2010 Super Bowl Odds

Ben Roethlisbereger

Pittsburgh Steelers 2009 NFL Predictions, Win Total & 2010 Super Bowl Odds: The road to the AFC North title and also the Superbowl runs through Pittsburgh. The Steelers won their 2nd NFL Championship in 4 years with last season’s Superbowl win and now will go for a record 7 NFL championships. In his 2nd year as the Steelers head coach, Mike Tomlin overcame one of the toughest schedules in the NFL to win the Superbowl 27-23 against Arizona. With no apparent weakness on the team, Tomlin is fetching an even more talented team than last season’s version. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is in his prime at 27 years-old and the team will have more depth and skill with the development of the 2008 draft class. The NFL predictions odds for the Pittsburgh Steelers to win the 2010 Super Bowl is listed at 15-2 odds at Sportsbook.com.

Ben Roethlisberger is a proven winner that is arguably among the top-3 QB’s in the NFL. Roethlisberger is blessed with a combination of size, arm-strength, footwork and leadership. Big Ben has a tendency to hold on to the ball too long, take unnecessary punishment and turn the ball over, but his pro’s dominate his few con’s.  The Steelers 20th ranked offense was inconsistent at times last season behind a leaky O-Line but emerging star WR Santonio Holmes and a trio of gifted RB’s make this a strong offense.  The line remains the lone question mark with spotty pass-protection but they have proven to be effective enough as run-blockers to be considered a better than average unit. The NFL predictions odds for the Pittsburgh Steelers to win the AFC championship is at 4-1  odds.

The NFL’s #1 defense lost a couple starters from last season’s Superbowl squad but could be even better than last season with some improved depth. NFL Defensive MVP OLB James Harrison leads a physical and suffocating 3-4 defense that has the best defensive coordinator in the NFL in Dick LeBeau. The Steelers have blue-collar “tough guys” up front that free up a group of the NFL’s finest linebackers that are pass-rushing terror‘s. The secondary is led by the NFL’s best safety in  heat seeking missile Troy Polamalu who leads a deep secondary that was tops last year in passing defense. Special teams have a clutch Kicker in Jeff Reed and a game-breaking returner in Santonio Holmes. The team is hoping the return of  P Daniel Sepulveda can help last year’s poor punting.

This looks once again like a Super Bowl team. Pittsburgh does not have the type of personnel to rest on their laurels and they are likely to return to the big dance provided that Ben Roethlisberger stays healthy. The NFL predictions odds on the season Win Total for the Pittsburgh Steelers is listed at 11.0 WINS.
