Arthur Abraham Flattens Jermain Taylor In 12th Round Of Super Six World Boxing Classic: Showtime Boxing’s Super Six World Boxing Classic started with a bang Saturday when Arthur Abraham turned out the light on Jermain Taylor in the 12th round in front 0f 14,000 screaming German fans. The super-middleweight bout which was the first of the round-robin tournament was competitive early with the former undisputed champion Taylor, 28-4-1,17 KO’s, outboxing Abraham, 31-0, 25 KO’s through the first 4 rounds. Taylor was sharp with his flat-footed style behind his heavy left jab but he never really hammered home any clean shots through Abraham’s educated hands-high defense.
 

Slowly the fight started to shift in Abraham’s favor around the 5th round as Taylor began to become fatigued. As Abraham is accustomed to doing, he caught Taylor’s incoming punches on his arms and gloves before retaliating with fast and hard two-fisted assaults to the ribs and head.  Taylor evaded most of the blows showing that he still has above-average defense but in the 7th  round a short right-hand to the jaw  from Abraham buckled Taylor’s legs. Taylor finished the round but it was clear the smart counterpunching of Abraham was beginning to find it’s mark.

 Taylor as usual was predictable in his attack throwing jabs and occasionally going to the body and Abraham made him pay for it in the 12th. Taylor was looking particularly vulnerable in the final round with his speed and technique waning and the bull-strong Abraham caught him with jolting straight right to the chin that put Taylor on his back blinking through a concussion.  The loss was the Taylor’s 3rd KO defeat in his last 5 fights and could lead to his retirement and elimination from the Showtime Boxing Super Six World Boxing Classic. Taylor could be damaged goods from the KO defeats at this point and if he did retire he has had a fine career. Abraham who was instilled as a 7-5 boxing betting co-favorite to win the tournament has explosive power, great punch resistance,  stamina and defense.
