Boxing News: Heavyweight Factory’s Timor Ibragimov Retains Belt: Tuesday night in an off-TV bout Uzbekistan heavyweight Timor Ibragimov successfully defended his N.A.B.A strap against fringe opponent Gurcharan Singh. The 32-year old Singh, 20-1, 11 KO’s, came in looking flabby at 221 lbs. and was hit with everything but the kitchen sink in the first loss of his career. Ibragimov, 28-2-1, 15 KO’s, looked sharp with his lateral movement and use of accurate combo’s and counters to the head and body. After a brutal 9th round beating Ibragimov, 225.5, put the screws to the awkward but tough Singh in the 10th frame. A deadly accurate combination along the ropes had Singh out on his feet on wobby pins. A neck-trauma inducing Ibragimov right hand almost launched Singh onto the press table after nearly falling over the ropes. Ref Frank Santore Jr. wisely called a halt to the measured beating at 1:45 of the 10th.
Welterweight 2008 Florida Golden Gloves 141 Lb. champ Brad Solomon showed some flashes of brilliance against trail horse Wilfredo Negron. The energetic Solomon, 13-0, 5 KO’s, did a good Roy Jones Jr. impression with electric hand and footspeed along with leaping triple hooks. The Negron, 26-15-1, 19 KO’s, knew how to survive by rarely firing some off target power shots before getting countered. The 27-year old Brad Solomon is a very-good infighter and counterpuncher at such an early stage of his career. Brad possesses the tools to go to the next level with more seasoning and strength.
Kris Lawrence’s Heavyweight Factory put together another fine event that was aesthetically pleasing with lots of blonde bunnies and testosterone pleasing with well-matched wars. The atmosphere at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino’s boxing venue is bubbling with jaw-dropping female attendance and plenty of collisions, courtesy of matchmaking dream team Henry Rivalta (Directory of Boxing) and Johnny Bos (Matchmaker).
