Boxing News: Is Diaz A Live Underdog Against Marquez At +300? This Saturday in a rematch from 2009’s fight of the year lightweight world champion Juan Manuel Marquez will face Juan Diaz on PPV at 9 PM ET. Both fighters have suffered heartbreaking defeats since their first encounter and are seeking redemption of sorts in an all-Mexican battle. Marquez, 50-5-1, 37 KO’s, was given all that he can handle by the “Baby Bull” Diaz, 35-3, 17 KO’s, in their first bout but has been instilled by the boxing betting oddsmakers as a heavy 7-2 favorite in the return bout. Below is a closer look at why our boxing picks staff thinks that Diaz is being undersold as such a heavy underdog.

The Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Juan Diaz Odds have Marquez as a -400 favorite at BetUs.Com.

Boxing Picks Analysis:
Fight bettors have a tendency to overreact to off-performances which is the case in this fight with Diaz. After getting KO’d in the 9th round against Marquez, Diaz was outboxed in two bouts against Brooklyn slickster Paulie Malignaggi at Jr. welterweight. Styles make fights however and Malignaggi can give any world-class fighter difficulty when he is “on“. Diaz did not take a beating against the light-punching Malignaggi and back at his natural weight he should be able to put those off disappointing outings behind him. The Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Juan Diaz Odds have Diaz as a +300 underdog.

The first Marquez vs. Diaz fight was of the ebb and flow variety and Diaz was dead even on the scorecards before he got caught. Diaz is 10 years younger than Marquez and it is unlikely that Marquez has really gotten that much better while Diaz has gotten worse.  Diaz showed in the first bout that his constant pressure gives the counterpuncher Marquez problems. Marquez also showed that he was a big hole in his defense for Diaz’s left hook which landed with regularity. Marquez took a real bad beating against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in his last bout and after so many wars the 36-year old may be close to hitting the wall.

Marquez should be favored but giving Diaz only a 20% chance of winning on the boxing betting money line is ridiculous. Diaz has closer to a 40% chance of coming out on top in the rematch and is a good value bet for gamblers to take a stab at. The Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Juan Diaz Odds Total is at 9.5 Rounds with the Over at -220.
