Former undisputed welterweight champ and notorious cheater Antonio Margarito, 38-6, 27 KO’s, appears to be the best viable option at this point for Pacquiao, 51-3-2, 38 KO’s. A rematch with Miguel Cotto has been mentioned but after such a one-sided first bout it wouldn't make much sense. Margarito’s reputation still has not recovered after getting smashed by Shane Mosley following his loaded gloves incident and then looking ordinary in a return from his one year suspension against the limited Roberto Garcia. Pacquiao, would appear to be a heavy favorite over the Mexican but Margarito is still a very dangerous opponent for the Pac-Man. Boxing Picks Analysis: Margarito is an in your face tough guy that likes to impose his will. Margarito never stops coming and has one of the best pair of whiskers in boxing. Antonio is a fairly easy target for a world-class fighter but he does subtle defensive things well that keeps opponents from teeing off on him. Margarito’s hand-speed is below-average but he has every punch in the book and is fairly accurate. Antonio’s power is good but not great now that he does not have the aid of plaster of paris in his mitts. Antonio knows how to apply pressure intelligently with the ability to cut off his opponents effectively. Once on the inside Margaritio is as nasty as they come with his physical strength, uppercuts and body digs.

Against Pacquiao Margarito will have a huge size advantage to work with but Pacquiao is much faster. Maragrito has never done well with fighters who have sizeable speed advantages. Pacquiao should be able to use his footwork to go in and out of range before his slower foe has a chance to put any serious leather on him.
