Boxing News: Pavlik Could Face Chavez Jr. Dec. 3rd: Former middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik could return to the ring in December on a pay-per-view card against mega popular Mexican Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Pavlik, 36-2, 32 KO’s, has not looked very sharp in recent bouts and Chavez‘s, 41-0-1, 30 KO’s, promoter Bob Arum could feel that the timing is right for the 24-year old to face a world-class fighter. Chavez Jr. is coming off his most impressive performance to date in a 12-round drumming over fringe contender John Duddy on June 26th.

Boxing Picks Analysis: At first glance our boxing picks staff really liked Pavlik in a fight against Chavez Jr. but with Kelly’s recent weight struggles we are not so sure. Pavlik said after his last fight, a 12-round loss to Sergio Martinez, that he would be moving up to either 168 or 175 lbs. But after hearing that a fight with the cash cow Chavez could be a possibility at 160 Lbs. Pavlik insisted that he could still make the weight with the help of a nutritionist. We are still not convinced that a health guru will help Pavlik stay strong at middleweight after looking noticeably sluggish against Martinez.

Even with the weight issues we favor Pavlik to be favored in this fight on the boxing odds. Kelly will hold advantages in almost every single category with the exception of maybe hand speed. Chavez Jr. has made strides under the tutelage of trainer Freddy Roach but he is still a class below Pavlik skill-wise.
