NBA Picks: Magic vs Cavaliers Game 5 - 2009 NBA Playoffs: With the series heading back to Cleveland for Game 5 tonight, the Cavaliers are listed as an 8-point favorite with NBA odds makers BetUS.com. Despite being the heavy favorite, it could be all over for the Cleveland Cavaliers tonight at the Q.With their backs against the wall down 3-1 to the Orlando Magic in the Eastern Conference Finals, the Cleveland Cavaliers must win tonight at home to avoid elimination and extend the series and their season.
The Orlando Magic put themselves in the driver’s seat Tuesday night with a 116-114 overtime win in Game 4 as a 1.5-point home underdog on the NBA odds. LeBron James had a shot to give the Cleveland Cavaliers a last-second win with another three-pointer at the buzzer, but he couldn’t repeat his Game 2 magic (no pun intended) and came up short. Dwight Howard led the Orlando Magic with 27 points and 14 rebounds, which included scoring 10 of Orlando’s 16 points in overtime. The Magic were deadly from beyond the arc in the win with 17 three-pointers, led by Rafer Alston with six. Alston finished the night with 26 points, while Rashard Lewis and Mickael Pietrus each poured in 17 points.
Despite missing what would have been the game-winning shot LeBron James netted a game-high 44 points for the Cavaliers to go along with 12 rebounds and seven assists. James also had a team-high eight turnovers in the loss. Mo Williams, who had guaranteed a win in Game 4, chipped in with 18 points, and Delonte West had 17 points and seven assists.
The Magic’s commanding lead in the series has also shaken up the series odds, pushing Orlando up to a -300 favorite while the Cavaliers have slipped to a +220 underdog to pull off a miracle comeback. The NBA Championship futures have also turned in Orlando’s favor. The Cavaliers entered the postseason as one of the championship favorites, but with elimination staring them in the face they’re down to a +400 underdog. Orlando though, has seen their title odds improve to +250. That’s still behind the Lakers, who remain the championship favorites at +110.
We believe that the spread may be a little high considering three of the four games in the series have been decided by two points or less. The only game that wasn’t was a 10-point victory for Orlando. OnlineSportsHandicapping.com’s NBA Picks for the Magic vs Cavaliers Game 5 Match Up: Orlando +8
