2010 Baseball Predictions - New York Mets NL East: The New York Mets suffered through a nightmare 2009 season due to a new oversized ballpark and a rash of injuries. The Citi Life ballpark will have the same dimensions despite the gripes from the players but help is on the way on offense with the addition of outfielder Jason Bay and his 36 home runs from Pittsburgh. The Mets will have to win with pitching and defense but they could be one of the surprise teams of the 2010 season.
Lineup: The Mets added pop with Jason Bay but their team will still struggle to score runs in the massive ballpark where Daniel Murphy led the team last year with only 12 HR‘s. The Mets will also have to deal with star player Carlos Beltran being out of the lineup for the first month of the season due to a knee injury. The Mets still have plenty of talent however with Jason Bay, David Wright, Jose Reyes and a promising young catcher in Omar Santos. This is an above-average lineup with upside if Wright can bounce back from an awful season. The 2010 New York Mets MLB Odds to win the N.L Pennant is at +1000.
Pitching: The Mets have some question marks on their staff with only one really good starter in LHP Johan Santana. The bullpen has a solid closer in Francisco Rodriguez but the ‘pen took a hit with setup man Kelvim Escobar expected to miss the start of the season and possibly longer. Overall the pitching looks very ordinary.
Managing/Bench: The jury is out on head coach Jerry Manuel to see if his laid back approach will work effectively this year. This team has a very-good bench with, power, defense and speed.
