2011 Breeders Cup Classic Results

drosselmeyer 2011 breeders cup champion

It was an exciting race that produced memorable 2011 Breeders’ Cup results in this year's running of the traditional 1-¼ mile run at Churchill Downs and in the end, it was Drosselmeyer at 14-1 odds to win the 28th Breeders' Cup World Championship. Mike Repole's Uncle Mo was made the 5-2 morning-line favorite from post 12 in a 13-horse field for the November 5th Breeders' Cup Classic, leaving trainer Todd Pletcher happy with the starting slot. Uncle Mo opened as the morning line favorite, but was overtaken and ended up with the second-best odds for the Breeders Cup Classic. The new favorite, after being bet down Saturday morning, was Flat Out, who ran out of the inside post position with 3:1 Breeders' Cup odds. After being scratched from the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands due to an infection, Uncle Mo was sidelined for more than four months to recover. Since his return, he had finished second in the King's Bishop Stakes at seven furlongs and won the Kelso Handicap at one mile. Uncle Mo won the Grey Goose Breeders' Cup Juvenile last year at Churchill and he has always been near the top of the morning line odds in these big races that he has run. But Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup picks delivered a bit of a surprise to some people.

The track was sticky from rain earlier this week, but that was no problem for Game On Dude, who was able to jump out in front out of the gates. Uncle Mo coasted right behind him. Uncle Mo and Game on Dude hit the home stretch in the front, but faded at the end as Drosselmeyer and jockey Mike Smith breezed past Game On Dude, who was ridden by his ex-girlfriend Chantal Sutherland, and the rest of the field. It was a good run for Uncle Mo, and a bit of a disappointing one for Havre De Grace, who didn’t factor in the money. If you picked the correct horses at the top of the 2011 Breeders’ Cup Classic results, you came away with some decent prize money.

Finishing out the top 5 after Drosselmeyer (14:1) were Game On Dude (16:1), Ruler On Ice (17:1), Havre De Grace (4:1) and Flat Out (7:2). If you had the exacta 3,8 here, then you won $444.80 on a $2 ticket, while a 3, 8, 2 trifecta netted an incredible $47,631.80 on a $2 bet. This was a race of surprises, but Drosselmeyer and his trainer Bill Motts earned this one. It was another successful major race for the thoroughbred industry and when we see races like these, we wish there were more major events in the sports.
