Some online sportsbooks are pinning two horses together and against each other as a way of offering some horse racing props and in this one, Nehro vs Dialed In is one of the big ones as they are both 2011 Kentucky Derby favorites. Both of these horses have impressed bettors leading all the way up to Run for the Roses and when compared together, Dialed In is a -145 favorite to finish ahead of Nehro, who is listed at +115 in this matchup. Dialed In comes into the race with more hype and a little bit higher expectations than Nehro, but I'm anticipating Nehro to run a solid race and finishing in the top three. I really think that starting from the first post is going to hurt Dialed In and jockey Julien Leparoux in the opening stages of the race.
Dialed In comes in as a 4-1 favorite at Bodog.com and starting from the rail in the first post, while Nehro is at 6-1 and starting from the 19th post on the other side of the gate. The post positions did not help either's horse racing odds, but the one that is able to steer clear of the heavy derby traffic will come closest to winning this race. The first real sign of his ability came last month when Dialed In made amends for a horrible defeat with an eye-popping last-to-first win in the $1 million Florida Derby. Dialed In likes to pace himself with the field, but I think that is a strategy that will backfire on Saturday, so look for Nehro to win this individual match-up at least.
Nehro's Beyers ratings have been on the rise and he is kin to a couple of stakes winners; Sweet Lips (6 for 13, $565,000 in earnings) and Saint Marden (won the Grade 3, 1 1/8 mile Discovery Handicap) who were best going long, and also figures to benefit from more distance. Finishing second in his final two prep races, it seemed as if he would have won them both if there were another quarter-mile to run as he just ran out of track while valiantly competing until the end.
