Current Kentucky Derby 2011 Favorites

nehro kentucky derby favorites

With the post positions set for this year's 'Run for the Roses', there are currently a few Kentucky Derby 2011 favorites in particular to keep an eye on before placing your Kentucky Derby predictions. The biggest factor affecting the favorites of this race is the withdrawal of Uncle Mo, who was at 9-2 odds before being pulled on Friday Morning. That clears the way for the new top four horses in the field, with Dialed In still the favorite at 4-1, while Nehro (6-1) and Ar Char Charch and Midnight Interlude, who are both at 10-1 odds to win on Saturday, following not too far behind. In my opinion, the horse and jockey combination whose Kentucky Derby odds have benefited the most from the drawing of the post positions is Twice The Appeal and legendary jockey Calvin Borel. Twice The Appeal opened  up the derby betting listed at a whopping 35-1, then after the jockey switch saw Calvin Borel get involved, they jumped to 30-1. A week or so later, Borel drew the third post and his odds jumped to 20-1.

By far this has been the biggest mover at SBGGlobal.com and with his recent success at Churchill Downs, look for those horse racing odds to get a little stronger leading up to race time. Still, Dialed In will be starting from the eighth post and that favors the odds of Julien Leparoux guiding him to the first turn at an angle that can spring him coming around the corner. Nehro is in the dreaded 19th post, a post that no horse has ever won the Kentucky Derby from, but his two strong second-place finishes in his final prep races make him a viable picks to make history.

Ar Char Charch and Midnight Interlude come into this race as 10-1 favorites to stand in the winner's circle on Saturday evening and although Ar Char Charch is a stronger and faster horse than Midnight Interlude, he'll be starting on the dreaded first post. Jockey Jon Court has to be smart because if not careful he can find himself pinned to the rail behind the entire field, which would be very difficult to navigate through down the stretch. All in all, the lack of a super-favorite has this year's Kentucky Derby betting wide open. Because of this, I'm leaning on jockey experience and taking Calvin Borel and Twice The Appeal at 20-1 before the line moves down any less on race day.
