2011 Breeders’ Cup Predictions

2011 breeders cup picks

Here are a few 2011 Breeders’ Cup Classic picks from the experts as readers prepare to place bets either at Churchill Downs or at an online sportsbooks. Uncle Mo is at 4/1 odds and he has never looked better, or has never trained better, owner Mike Repole said. "This is the Uncle Mo we thought we'd see the whole 3-year-old season. For him to make this comeback in just four months from being diagnosed is amazing." Uncle Mo lost 200 pounds while suffering an intestinal illness that sidelined him during the Triple Crown this past summer. When ‘Flat Out’ won the Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park on Oct. 1, trainer Charles (Scooter) Dickey was speechless. The 70-year-old trainer had just won his first Horse Racing predictions Grade I race in a career that began at age 12 when he rode in fair meets in Kansas and Oklahoma earning a lot of Breeders’ Cup predictions.

He was so overcome that his wife, Dana, stepped in and said, “It gives all the guys hope who think they don’t have hope.” Hope abounds at Dickey’s barn, where Flat Out looms a strong chance in Saturday’s $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic, a race nobody, expect maybe for Dickey, thought the horse would start in. After a promising 3-year-old debut, Flat Out took the Smarty Jones Stakes at Oaklawn Park on Jan. 19, 2009. Dickey thought maybe he had a Kentucky Derby starter in his barn then too. But after the talented colt had a poor start in the Southwest Stakes the following month, things quickly fell apart, but he is currently listed as a 13/2 longshot odds to win the Breeders' Cup 2011.

Remarkably, a female is a top contender for the third straight year (Zenyatta was the winner in 2009 at Santa Anita), as Havre de Grace (post position No. 10) is the 3-to-1 second choice on the morning line against a field of 12 males. The four-year-old daughter of Saint Liam defeated the boys handily in her lone try against them in the Woodward (Grade I) at Saratoga on September 3 and has finished in the money in all 14 career starts with eight victories good for career earnings over $2.1 million. However, she has had to settle for runner-up honors in both tries at this classic distance, including her only defeat in six starts this year when she came up a nose short in the Delaware Handicap (Grade II) on July 16.
