Kentucky Derby 2011 Post Positions, Start Time & Betting Odds Predictions

dialed in kentucky derby predictions

With the 2011 Kentucky Derby approaching its start time, the announcement of this year's post positions have provided an adjustment of the horse racing betting odds, which may have an effect on the predictions that you will be monitoring so closely on Saturday, May 7th, at 6:24pm ET on NBC. With the Kentucky Derby always scheduled on the first Saturday of May, the post positions and morning line odds were announced several days beforehand on Wednesday, May 4th. The early buzz ahead of this year's race is focused on several possible top contenders in a field where there is no clear-cut, runaway favorite. A lot of bets are sure to include Dialed In (+350) after a spectacular victory at the 2011 Florida Derby.

Dialed In, who will be starting in the number eight spot, is followed by Uncle Mo (+400) on the Kentucky Derby odds list. Uncle Mo would definitely be the top horse on the board if it weren't for the stomach ailment that has been nagging him in the weeks leading up to the race for the roses. Even though he had a spirited 1 1/2-mile gallop over a tight and fast Churchill Downs main track on Thursday morning, Uncle Mo’s status for Saturday’s 137th Kentucky Derby remained in limbo and a decision on whether or not he runs is expected by Friday morning, according to his owner Mike Repole.

With wet weather in Louisville this past week, the track will be slick, so keep your eye on horses who have proven fast on muddy tracks; such as Pants on Fire (+2000) and Soldat (+1200). Last year, jockeys ran a waterlogged track following a downpour just before post time, resulting in the contest being open to any horse who could hit the muck running. The winner was Super Saver, ridden by superstar jockey Calvin Borel, who finds himself aboard Twice The Appeal (+2000) this time around. What may be more of a threat than his horse, is  the fact that he has drawn the third post position. This is ideal for his trademark strategy of hugging the rail. SBGGlobal.com had Borel's horse racing odds listed at +3500 before the announcement of the post positions, but they have since made a jump to +2000. This has to be indicative of something.
