Nebraska Cornhuskers 2010 College Football Predictions: The season before head coach Bo Pelini arrived, Nebraska had suffered through an embarrassing 5–7 season. The Cornhuskers had seen their NCAA record for consecutive bowl appearances snapped three seasons before, and they had dropped from national prominence. This team's NCAA Betting Odds have improved every years since. This past season was more of a success at 10-4. Pelini’s teams are a combined 20–8, with three bowl victories, a share of the Big 12 North Division title in 2008 and a trip to the conference championship game in 2009, where the Cornhuskers lost to Texas, 13–12, on a last-second field goal. College Football Predictions Offense: Zac Lee missed spring practice following surgery on the flexor tendon in his throwing arm. The competition will begin during preseason practice as offensive coordinator Shawn Watson tries to find the player who can best manage his system. Cody Green is the most likely to replace Lee, partly because he’s a better runner. The Huskers have a pair of proven running backs in Roy Helu Jr. and Rex Burkhead. Helu rushed for 1,147 yards and averaged 5.2 yards per carry, despite dealing with a shoulder problem that limited him to a combined 12 carries in games against Iowa State and Baylor. The top four receivers and five of the top six return, led by Niles Paul and his 40 catches for 796 yards. Paul is a playmaker, not only at receiver but also in the kicking game. He presents matchup problems because of his size and speed as he’s among the fastest on the team. Sportsbook.Com has the Nebraska Cornhuskers' 2011 BCS National Championship Odds at an attractive +1200.

College Football Predictions Defense: Ndamukong Suh will be missed, no question about that. The Huskers ranked seventh nationally in total defense and first in both scoring defense and pass efficiency defense. And there’s no reason to expect a significant drop-off Jared Crick, who was second to Suh in sacks and quarterback hurries, anchors the line. Nebraska calls its base defense the “Peso,” with the Buck linebacker position being eliminated. Nickelback Eric Hagg has the size and speed to step up into the box against the run, like a linebacker, as well as drop in pass coverage. Hagg rarely comes off the field as the nickelback. DeJon Gomes, with six starts in the dime package, will step up at safety. Austin Cassidy, Hagg’s backup at nickel, also will be in the mix at safety. Cornerback is a strength, with returning starters Prince Amukamara and Alfonzo Dennard. The Nebraska Cornhuskers' 2010 NCAA Betting Odds win total is at 10, with the Under at -140 .
