Chargers vs Saints Odds 2010 NFL Preseason Week 3

drew brees new orleans saints

The AFC West Champion San Diego Chargers (1-1) travel to the big easy (Friday 8:00pm, on CBS) to take on the defending Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints (1-1) at the Superdome.  The Chargers lost a 2 point game to the Dallas Cowboys last week to even their preseason record. The Saints NFL Betting Odds began to stabilize last week as the Saints flexed their muscles in a 38-20 rout of the Houston Texans. This should be a closer game with the starters scheduled to play more minutes than last week. Hammerhead Sports always delivers the most accurate free sports picks and football odds from our team of NFL Predictions experts. Find our Winning NFL Picks selections below.

The San Diego Chargers have some unanswered questions on offense. Philip Rivers will be fine at quarterback, but the running game is untested with rookie Ryan Mathews pounding the Rock. He looked good last week rushing 12 times for 53 yards. With Vincent Jackson set to serve a four game suspension, the receiving corps must step up and share the load in his absence. The Charger defense was solid last season and they hope to have Shawn Merriman anywhere near his pro-bowl form from a few years ago. The offense will have a tough time scoring on the Saints, who held Matt Schaub without a touchdown last week. Bodog Sportsbook has the New Orleans Saints (+3) as the Free NFL Picks selection over the San Diego Chargers (-3).

The New Orleans Saints are excited about their title defense and with good reason. Reggie Bush has been great this preseason. He carried the ball seven times for 49 yards and a score. If he can elevate his game, that would give Drew Brees an extra weapon to help him keep defenses honest. Brees' numbers haven't been there yet this preseason, but a professional like Brees is working on specific things in games like these, rather than adhering to a specific game plan. The Chargers defense will have their work cut out for them in what figures to be a shootout. With the NFL Betting Odds point total at 42.5, the Over is the smart play.
