San Francisco 49ers 2011 Super Bowl Predictions: The San Francisco 49ers finished last season with a record. They went in the division and failed to make the playoff. With Head Coach Mike Singletary getting a firmer grip on this franchise, the 49ers will be expected to make the playoffs and even win the division in an NFC West that contains a bunch of teams either rebuilding or transitioning. With Kurt Warner retiring, the Arizona Cardinals, will be back to the middle of the pack so this is San Francisco's time. NFL Predictions Offense: Alex Smith has only showed that he lacks ideal NFL tools essential to a quarterback. The intelligence, accuracy and surprising athleticism that got him drafted first overall in 2005 have been exposed by his inability to throw with bodies around him. Michael Crabtree’s stardom is inevitable. After sitting out virtually his entire rookie offseason with a bad foot, then missing training camp and the first five games because of a contract dispute, Crabtree stepped right in and showed the explosive skills and soft-yet-strong hands that made him the highest-touted receiver of the ’09 Draft. Talented as Crabtree is Vernon Davis who will still be the first option in 2010. Davis is the best route running tight end in football and the arrival of Ted Ginn Jr. should only make his life easier. Frank Gore benefits from having valuable miscellaneous blockers to buttress his offensive line. The San Francisco 49ers 2010 NFC West Odds to win the division are at -110.
The San Francisco 49ers' 2011 Super Bowl Odds to win it all are at +2500.
NFL Predictions Defense: Third-round rookie Navarro Bowman couldn’t ask for a better inside linebacker to learn from than 13th year veteran Takeo Spikes. Though tight ends still have success against this defense, it’s worth noting that Willis’s improvements in coverage have made a world of difference. Willis has become a genuine playmaker against the pass (career high four sacks and three interceptions in 2009). Outside linebackers Parys Haralson and Manny Lawson will both dazzle with athleticism then disappear for long stretches. To be fair, both players are used more like cogs than featured weapons. The San Francisco 49ers 2010 Regular Season Win Total is at 8.5 with the Over at -155.
Head Coach\Special Teams: Baalke, Singletary and Marathe oversee a roster that returns 20 of the 22 starters from last year’s 8-8 team. And, just as importantly, the coaching staff returns the same offensive and defensive coordinators, Jimmy Raye and Greg Manusky, for the first time since 2003. Singletary chose not to retain respected special teams coach Al Everest. Taking over is Kurt Schottenheimer, a defensive guy who last coached special teams 15 years ago in Kansas City under his father, Marty. Schottenheimer will be coaching some fantastic feet. Kicker Joe Nedney is as reliable as they come inside 40 yards. Andy Lee regularly finishes near the top of the NFC in net punting.
