The Jacksonville Jaguars' 2011 Super Bowl Betting Odds have the Jaguars at +7000 to win the 2011 Super Bowl.
NFL Predictions Offense: A large part of the Jaguars' problems on offense were because of weaknesses on the offensive line. Rookie right tackle Eben Britton had a difficult time picking up pass rushers from the outside, which caused David Garrard to face a lot of pressure from the right side. Whenever the line shifted to the right in order to compensate for Britton, it would cause Garrard to get pressured from the left. Due to this, Garrard rarely had time to let the play develop, which often forced him to either take a sack or make a bad throw. Another problem the Jaguars had in their pass protection is that they often failed to successfully pick up the blitz. Too many of the Jaguars' offensive plays last year ended with a defensive player rushing into the backfield, unblocked. Receiver Mike Sims-Walker really bloomed last year, and former Chargers wide receiver Kassim Osgood was signed and told he would have an opportunity to get playing time at wide receiver as well, which would give Garrard another weapon to throw to. Tight end Marcedes Lewis is a good safety valve for Garrard, and running back Maurice Jones-Drew was excellent at catching passes out of the backfield and picking up yards after the catch. The Jacksonville Jaguars AFC South Odds to win the division are at +1000.
NFL Predictions Defense: Out of their six draft picks, their first four were all defensive linemen, most notably California defensive tackle Tyson Alualu, selected highly at tenth overall in the draft, and bashed repeatedly by many fans. After well-known defensive tackle John Henderson was traded away, it became clear that Alualu was expected to start in 2010. While Henderson was no longer as dominant a defensive tackle in 2009 as he was in years past, he still provided a decent push up the middle. The linebacking corps isn't phenomenal, but they are good enough to get the job done. They are best in pass coverage, where they show the speed to stick with their assignments. If the defensive line can get more push with their rookies, then this will free up the Jaguars to send more linebackers into pass coverage. The defensive backfield is Jacksonville's brightest spot. Safety Reggie Nelson has a knack for getting to the ball, and cornerback Rashean Mathis is excellent at breaking up passes, though his speed isn't elite. The Jacksonville Jaguars Win Total is at 7 with the under at -125.
Head Coach\Special Teams: Jack Del Rio will surely be on the hot seat this season as his team will have to make a division run in order for Del Rio to keep his job. Del Rio is an advocate of smash-mouth football, and it shows at the worst of times. When the Jaguars start to fall behind, they fall apart, because they are clearly not a passing team. Although Garrard has performed admirably considering the quality of his protection, Del Rio called his quarterback out through the media, saying Garrard was not elite, and that he needed to become more of a leader. The Jaguars' special teams game was mediocre at best during 2009. Their kickoff return game was ranked 16th as they averaged 22.6 yards per return, and they were ranked 14th in punt returns with an average of 8.6 yards per return. Jaguars punter Adam Podlesh had a poor 2009 season, as his punting average of 41.9 yards per punt had the Jaguars ranked 27th in the NFL in average punt distance, which kept them from benefiting from their league-low average of 4.2 yards allowed per punt return.
