The New York Yankees (2-1) and the Minnesota Twins (1-2) will square it up today at 7:05pm ET on ESPN from Yankees Stadium in today’s free MLB picks selection. The Yankees play their fourth home game of the year after winning their opening series against the Detroit Tigers. The good news for the Yankees is that they scored 23 runs in their first three games, but the bad news is that they allowed 19. Russell Martin is leading the team with a .455 batting average, followed by Alex Rodriguez at .400, and Nick Swisher at .364. Mark Teixeira has three home runs in as many games and Jorge Posada has two. Teixeira is known for his slow starts so this s a very promising sign for New York. For today's game New York starts Ivan Nova who won the fourth spot in the rotation with an outstanding spring. Nova was 1-2 last season with a 4.50 ERA and he’ll look to get things off to a better start against the Twins.

The Minnesota Twins were able to salvage a win in their series in Toronto but thus far it looks like last season where they struggled against the better teams in the league. The Twins scored eight runs while giving up 22 in Toronto as they were pounded in their losses. As a team Minnesota is batting just .198 with Denard Span and Danny Valencia hitting their only two home runs. Span is hitting .455, but Joe Mauer is hitting just .143 and Justin Morneau is batting an even .100. The Minnesota pitching staff got hit hard over the weekend and tonight they will send out Scott Baker, who was 12-9 last year with a 4.49 ERA. With the MLB odds at SBG Global Sportsbook marking New York as the -1.5 run favorites, I expect the struggles to continue for the Twins, who historically struggle mightily against the Yankees.

New York has a great opportunity to create some early distance between themselves and the Boston Red Sox. Boston left Texas empty handed as they were swept by the Rangers over the weekend. A lot of things went down differently within the American League East, as Buck Showalter guided his Orioles to a three-game sweep over the Tampa Bay Rays. That’s right, Baltimore is in first place all alone, but not many people expect them to stay up there for too long. The run total for this game is set at 9.5 and I’m leaning towards taking the over. The Yankee bats are hot while the Minnesota arms are ice cold. You do the math.
