Belmont Stakes Charitable Man top challenger at 3 to 1 odds: Mine That Bird has managed to grab a large share of horse racing's headlines since winning the 2009 Kentucky Derby and finishing a close second to Rachel Alexandra in the Preakness Stakes; is now a 4-to-3 favorite to win the Belmont Stakes. But lurking in the shadows is a horse, Charitable Man, that has  qualities and breeding to win the $1-million endurance race called Belmont Stakes. Oddsmakers at online horsebook Bodog lists Charitable Man at 3-1 odds to win the Belmont Stakes.

Charitable Man, trained by Kiaran McLaughlin, comes from a stable with a long history of Belmont success including Jazil who won in 2006. The same year Invasor, also trained by McLaughlin won the Dubai World Cup and G-1 Breeders' Cup Classic en route to winning Horse of the Year honors.

Charitable Man is the son of 1999 Belmont winner Lemon Drop Kid. He enters the third leg of of the Triple Crown following a win in the G-2 Peter Pan on May 9. Charitable Man also won the G-2 Futurity at Belmont Park as a 2-year old.
