Rams vs. Jets NFL Pre-Season Week 1: Folks will be abuzz with excitement Friday night at Giants Stadium when the Jets debut their $50-million man, rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez. Jets' fans will have to wait a little while before getting to see their rookie phenom.  Starting at quarterback for the Jets in this game will be fourth-year man Kellen Clemens. Taken 49th by the Jets in the 2006 NFL Draft second round, Clemens began his career as backup to Chad Pennington. The Oregon product started seven games in 2007 after Pennington's injury but played backup to Brett Favre in 2008.  Clemens is also looking for a NFL starting job and is battling with Sanchez for the No. 1 position.

Bodog.com oddsmakers list the Jets as -3 1/2 chalk favorites over the Rams on the Bodog NFL pre-season board with a 32 1/2 total. Moneyline odds on the game are currently unavailable.

While the central theme for the Jets is the quarterback competition, the other side in tonight's game seems to be settled on its quarterback, Mark Bulger. Fans can expect the Rams to go to the ground and play some smash mouth football, a far cry from the former mantra, "Greatest Show on Turf". The Rams have more work to do on the defense. The unit gave up a franchise record 2,475 yards on the ground last year, a franchise record.

Fans will see different philosophy tonight from the two teams. The Jets are looking for a quarterback and will come out trying to find consistency from Sanchez and Clemens. The Rams will try to move the ball on the ground using the pass to set up the run. It should be a good game for a half. Almost always, the second half the teams will be looking at individual performances while looking for depth.
