The Broncos, predicted by pundits as favorites to win the WAC, return quarterback Kellen Moore and the majority of an offensive line from last season. Also returning to help offensively are wide receiver Austin Pettis and tight end Kyle Efaw. The kicking game will be bolstered by the return of kicker Kyle Brotzman.

Boise State should have a stingy defense if it performs at levels achieved in 2008. The Broncos' defensive unit only gave up more than 17 points twice. Key performers return in All-WAC cornerback Kyle Wilson, DL Ryan Winterswyk, and safety Jeron Johnson.

While winning the WAC is a probability, nailing down a national championship is an improbability though no fault of Broncos players. The problem can be blamed on the company they keep. The WAC is not highly regarded across the nation. Boise State, Fresno State, Hawaii and Nevada have enjoyed some national success but the bottom half of the league is among the worst in the country.

For Boise State to win a BCS Championship they must go undefeated and wish for some heavy hitters above them to suffer some setbacks. The Broncos will be challenged early by opening with the Oregon Ducks in a Thursday, Sept. 3, night game at Bronco Stadium in Boise. The Ducks will be coming into this game with their heads lowered and ready for battle after suffering upset by the Broncos at home in Autzen Stadium last year.
