Lesnar and Mir have a history in the ring. Fans remember Mir getting a decision over Lesnar in UFC 81 by submission at 1:30 of round one. In that fight Lesnar secured an early takedown, but was deducted a point for hitting Mir on the back of the head. following another takedown by Lesnar, Mir managed to secure a kneebar and force a submission.

Lesnar and Mir were scheduled for a rematch in UFC 98 but a knee injury postponed the bout until UFC 100.
