
College World Series 2009: Arizona State defeated North Carolina 5-2 in both schools College World Series 2009 opener on Sunday then lost to Texas in the winners bracket game on Tuesday. Also on Tuesday, the Tar Heels rebounded after their loss to the Sun Devils by eliminating Southern Mississippi in a losers bracket game. Today, ASU and Carolina will battle for the right to advance while the loser will go home.

Tar Heel's bats came alive in the teams elimination game with Southern Miss on Tuesday. The Tar Heels tied a College World Series record with 23 base hits, matching Arizona State and and Southern California. Carolina's 23 hits are a season best.
The Sun Devils jumped on top of Texas early in their winners bracket game Tuesday, scoring three runs each in the second and third innings. However, Texas rallied to tie the game with a six-run fourth inning that chased ASU starter Mike Leake from the game. Leake went 3.1 innings and allowed six runs (five earned) and eight hits.
Kole Calhoun had three hits, including his second home run of the College World Series, to lead the Sun Devil offense. Carlos Ramirez also had a home run, his team-leading 19th of the season, and Jared McDonald drove in two runs.
