The Arkansas Razorbacks (40-23) and Virginia Cavaliers (49-14-1) mens baseball teams will meet in an elimination game tonight at the Mens College World Series 2009 at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Neb. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN2. It is a win or go home scenario for the Hogs and Cavs. Arkansas defeated Cal State Fullerton in its opener on Saturday but found its way to the losers bracket after getting pounded by LSU on Monday. Virginia, lost to LSU in its Saturday opener but rebounded with a win eliminating Fullerton Monday afternoon.
Online oddsmakers at BetUS.com list Virginia as slight -175 moneyline favorites over Arkansas with a 9 1/2-run total. Razorbacks' backers are getting +145 moneyline odds. The run line price on Virginia (-1 1/2) is -115 and Arkansas (+1 1/2) is -115.
Look for Drew Smyly to get the start for Arkansas, who was dominate in his last start in the Norman Regional by keeping Oklahoma hitless through eight innings. The Arkansas left-hander owns a 3-1 record with a 4.72 ERA. Virginia is expected to counter with staff ace Danny Hultzen, who was the loser in Saturday's game against LSU. Hultzen was 9-0 on the season prior to suffering his first loss to the Tigers. If Hultzen isn't ready to go tonight, look for senior Robert Poutier (3-0, 2.21 ERA) to get the nod for the Cavs.
The winner of the Arkansas-Virginia game will advance to face LSU at 2 p.m. Friday.
