2009 College World Series: Arizona State vs North Carolina

CWS

2009 College World Series - Arizona State vs North Carolina: Two national seeds, No. 4 North Carolina Tar Heels (47-16) and No. 5 Arizona State Sun Devils (49-12), will square off Sunday in the first game of the Men's College World Series Day-2 at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Neb., with a 2 p.m. start time on ESPN.

Online oddsmakers at BetUS.com list the Sun Devils as -155 moneyline favorites with a 10-run total. Tar Heels' backers are getting +125 moneyline odds. The run line price on ASU (-1 1/2) is -115 and North Carolina (+1 1/2) +125.

The Tar Heels and Sun Devils have accumulated plenty of frequent flyer miles traveling to Omaha for the College World Series over the years. This is North Carolina's fourth straight CWS and eighth in the program's history while 2009 is ASU's 21st trip and third out of five years.

North Carolina junior pitcher Alex White will get the start against ASU. A right-hander, White has an 8-4 record with 4.13 ERA. White, a CWS veteran, won a record-tying three games at the 2008 CWS. The Cleveland Indians made White their first round selection and 15th overall last week in the MLB amateur draft.

It is undetermined who will take the mound for ASU but they are expected to play with the same lineup they used throughout the postseason. North Carolina will probably face either junior right-hander Mike Leake who is 16-1 with a 1.36 ERA or Josh Spence, 9-1, 2.33 ERA.
