We are officially a week away from one of the richest, most prestigious horse races in the world, as this is the time for handicapping Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup Classic 2013.
The 30th running of the Breeders’ Cup Classic is scheduled to take place Nov. 2, 2013, at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, Calif., beginning at 5:35 p.m. ET on NBC.
The richest race in North America consists of 3-year-olds – limited to 14 participants in total – competing for a $5 million purse. The Breeders’ Cup Classic horse racing odds you’ll see here can be found at Bovada Sportsbook.
According to the horse racing experts, out of the 13 thoroughbreds probable to compete in the 2013 Classic, Bob Baffert’s Game On Dude (3/1) seems to be the popular choice and with good reason.
This 6-year-old gelding comes in with one of the most impressive resumes of all 12 competitors.
In fact, one would be hard-pressed to find a thoroughbred that has not only enjoyed more success than Game On Dude, but that has more positive momentum coming into this race.
With seven Grade I races to his name, Game On Dude will be trying to add to a long list of victories that includes: Lone Star Derby (2010), Santa Anita Handicap (2011, 2013), Goodwood Stakes (2011, 2012), San Antonio Stakes (2012, 2013), Californian Stakes (2012), Hollywood Gold Cup (2012, 2013), Native Diver Handicap (2012), Charles Town Classic (2013) and Pacific Classic Stakes (2013).
But even with all that said, if there were ever a thoroughbred poised for an upset in the year’s final coronation, it would be defending champion, Fort Larned (4/1).
Tagged with the second best Breeders’ Cup Classic 2013 handicapping odds, this 5-year-old Stallion poses the biggest threat to Baffert on race day. After one of the most successful seasons any thoroughbred could ask for, Fort Larned has had trouble competing, and thus, winning in 2013.
Nevertheless, capturing the Stephen and the Homecoming Classic might be enough to give him the confidence needed to repeat on Saturday night. Forst Larned will be trying to add his second Classic to a resume that includes: Skip Away Stakes (2012), Cornhusker Handicap (2012), Whitney Handicap (2012). Breeders’ Cup Classic (2012) and Stephen Foster Handicap (2013).
And while those are the top two contenders in handicapping the Breeders’ Cup Classic 2013, there are still other horse racing free picks names to look out for, including last year’s runner up Mucho Macho Man, Belmont Stakes winner Palace Malice, Travers champion Will Take Charge, and many more.
