With the official 2017 Belmont Stakes post positions draw looming, horse racing betting odds experts and predictions specialists are looking to get the upper hand on one another. That’s because immediately after the post positions are announced, horse racing oddsmakers rush to make their final adjustments prior to the influx of late wagers.
Naturally, all the early talks revolve around Classic Empire, as he’s poised to remain the horse racing betting favorite. However, seasoned bettors know that placing wagers prior to the post positions could prove to be a lucrative move, as the favorite’s ROI value tends to decrease after the following hurdle prior to the race is cleared.
At the present time, Classic Empire is listed as a 2/1 frontrunner, which is a pretty darn good value for your buck. By this time tomorrow, I can almost guarantee that he will not be as attractive of a bet though. So, not only is the time to place a wager now, but judging by the way his workouts are going, Classic Empire is going to be tough to beat Saturday at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York, particularly because of his poise.
“We just look for him to have good energy,” said his trainer Mark Casse. “He’s not a horse who gets excited, so he’s not a horse who is going to jump around and you say, ‘Oh, he’s feeling great.’ You just look for him to be kind of happy. Some days he’s a little more aggressive than others. We don’t look for excuses not to run. If they’re happy and healthy and there’s a race, we’re going to run ‘em.”
As I stated in my most recent piece, I like his chances to finally win his first Triple Crown race after failed attempts at the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes. That said, I’ve had many people hit me up on social media asking me for a secondary horseracing predictions winner with the potential to pull off an upset.
Personally, at 6/1 horse racing futures betting odds, it would be impossible to pass up on placing a wager on Irish War Cry. Under the tutelage of trainer H. Graham Motion, the son of Curlin got his career off to a blistering start. The New Jersey native was victorious in his first three starts, including wins at the Marylander Stakes and Holy Bull-G2.
Even though he would go on to let me down –given that I tapped him as my horse racing predictions winner –by finishing seventh at the Fountain of Youth-G2, he showed his championship mettle when he won the Wood Memorial-G2 at Aqueduct. He would go on to have a terrible showing in the first leg of the Triple Crown, finishing 10th at the Derby, but that just means that he’s poised for another solid effort.
