Daddy Nose Best 2012 Kentucky Derby Predictions

by Anthony Mason on Thursday, April 26th, 2012

One of the horses flying under everyone’s radar, with the potential and momentum to pull off an upset at the 2012 Kentucky Derby predictions is Daddy Nose Best. While people are sitting going ‘who in the world is Daddy Nose Best?’ The answer to that is that: Daddy Nose Best is the first place winner at the 2012 El Camino Real Derby-G3 and Sunland Derby 2012.

Listed towards the middle of the pack in odds to win the 2012 Kentucky Derby on May 5th, Daddy Nose Best is currently a 20/1 underdog. Why is this one of the 20 horses to keep a close eye on in a week’s time?

For starters, his pedigree is second to none. Sire Scat Daddy is the 2007 Florida Derby winner, who finished 18th in the Kentucky Derby on the same year. The ‘07 Run for the Roses would actually be his last race. Daddy Nose Best’s dam is Follow Your Bliss, who is the daughter of 1995 Kentucky and Belmont Derby winner, Thunder Gulch.

So winning runs in his blood, as he embarked on a season as a three-year-old full of expectations. But by far the most important reason why he could be the one to take home the $2 million is very simple: maturity and running the right races. What are you waiting for? Bet on horse racing right here, right now!

Thus far, Daddy Nose Best hasn’t disappointed, considering his slow start. He was beaten in two sprint stakes before finishing sixth at the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf race. Since then, Daddy Nose Best has had only one start in which he hasn’t finished first.

With a two-race win streak, trainer Steven Asmussen is very pleased with the way his horse has bounced back from his slow start. The trainer has found that the key for his horse’s success is longer distances. His victories at El Camino Real and at the Sunland proved that theory correct after failing at the sprint races.

Asmussen believes that Daddy Nose Best is one of the most likely 2012 Kentucky Derby predictions candidates for an upset at Churchill Downs. The (2007, 2009) Preakness Stakes and (2007) Breeders’ Cup winning trainer claims that his slow career start could be based on simple immaturity. A year later, Asmussen claims this is the horse to beat at the first leg of the Triple Crown.

“We have plenty of reasons for optimism," Asmussen said. "We feel good about him handling the 1 1/8-mile distance in a respectable time. This is everything we had hoped for. The spacing of his races was right. This race fit perfectly with his timing. He showed a great degree of maturity today and has improved a lot since his two-year-old season.”
