If there’s one thing that can be taken away from Game 4 of the 2014 NHL Stanley Cup picks final is that a little desperation can go a long way. But for how much longer can the NY Rangers extend the series with the LA Kings based on those emotions? We are all set for Game 5 of this best-of-seven series.
After a pair of games in the Big Apple, the scenery shifts to the City of Angels for Game 5, specifically the Staples Center in Downtown Los Angeles, Calif. The Kings will be trying to put a bow on this series against the Rangers and capture their second title in three years.
If NHL hockey odds makers are correct, the home team will do just do the evening and the Stanley Cup will be raised at night’s end. Hours before the puck drops (at 8 p.m. Eastern Time), the LA Kings are -185 favorites to defeat the NY Rangers (+160) and the O/U tallies 5 goals.
Thanks to gritty defense and timely scoring, the Rangers were finally able to get on the board with a win in Game 4 in front of their home crowd. Helping fight off elimination for the first time in this series were Benoit Pouliot (5) and Martin St. Louis (8), who scored the teams goals in the 2-1 win.
However, much like was the case for the LA Kings in Game 3, the goalkeeper was the star for the opposition. After stopping a whopping 40 shots, Henrik Lundqvist certainly gets the nod as the player of the game. He stopped 11 shots in the first and 15 in both the second and third stanzas with only a single attempt finding the back of the net all night.
It’s hard to believe that New York was able to come away victorious despite the compelling stories statistics tell. Other than being outshot 41-19, the Rangers also lost the faceoff battle 41-24, which could have been crucial in this free NHL hockey picks game. The question everyone wants to know is: Can the NY Rangers fight off elimination one more time and force this series back to Madison Square Garden?
