University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, AZ, will be the site for the 2012 Fiesta Bowl on Monday, January 2nd 2012, at 8:30 PM ET on ESPN. Playing in the Fiesta Bowl this season will be the (11-1) Stanford Cardinal [+3.5] taking on the Fiesta Bowl predictions favorite (11-1) Oklahoma State Cowboys [-3.5]. According to college football odds makers, the projected OVER/UNDER mark for this game is set at a combined total of 74 points scored between these schools.
For Stanford, their quarterback, Andrew Luck became the first player in history to finish second in the Heisman Trophy voting for a second consecutive year. Luck, who is projected to become the first overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, was the favorite to win the highest individual honor in college football until his team collapsed late in the season against Oregon. The biggest key for Luck to be able to upset the Cowboys will be his ability to avoid turning the ball over.
For OSU, their only blemish this season came in the late going, as they fell to Iowa State 31-37 after a 10-0 start. The Cyclones were able to rally from a 17-point deficit to force overtime. Iowa State pressured Cowboys quarterback Brandon Weeden, ending his Heisman Trophy hopes as he threw three picks.
“This one stings. This one’s tough. But here’s the deal: All the goals we set at the beginning of the year are still there,” Weeden said. “We still have a chance to win and be conference champions. We still have a chance to go play in a BCS bowl game. So it’s there for the taking for us. We’ve just got to learn from it.”
You can bet Stanford will be watching that game closely, as they’ll look to apply the same type of pressure that forced Weeden into making mistakes. Nevertheless, I like the Cowboys to win the Stanford vs Oklahoma State odds!
