New York Giants vs New England Patriots NFL Week 9 Picks

by Anthony Cashman on Saturday, November 5th, 2011

If you think Tom Brady and Bill Belichick don’t remember the way their bid for a perfect season/postseason ended in the 2008 Super Bowl you’re sorely mistaken. With the memories of that game still fresh in their minds, the (5-2) New England Patriots [-10] will welcome the ever inconsistent, (5-2) New York Giants [+10] to Gillette Stadium in Foxborough.

This NFL Week 9 Predictions contest is scheduled to kickoff this Sunday afternoon at 4:15 PM ET on FOX. According to NFL predictions specialists, the projected OVER/UNDER line for the G-Men and Pats is set at a combined total of 51 points scored.

“It just wasn’t a really good day for us in any phase of the game, in any area,” Belichick recalled the way Super Bowl XLII went. “We just didn’t do a good enough job. That’s really all there is to say.”

Despite the fact that Eli Manning and the Giants come into this game leading the NFC East, don’t let that or their record fool you. Yes, they have great defense. In fact, the amount of pressure New York on opposing quarterbacks is second to none in the league.

Having that said, discouraging loses to the (3-4) Washington Redskins and the (2-5) Seattle Seahawks have really exposed the Giants as an up-and-down team. New York will certainly need to be at its best in order to keep up with a pissed off Patriots bunch.

Coming into this game looking to disprove the finesse tag they’ve been slapped with, the Patriots will likely play a very physical style of football. In what was supposed to be a playoff preview, last week at Heinz Field, Brady & Co. found themselves on the losing end of a physical war against Mike Tomlin’s Pittsburgh Steelers.

My NFL Week 9 Picks for the Giants-Patriots: The fact that the Giants will have so many injured players, plus the fact that New England now has a chip on its shoulder, I like the home team all the way. With Ahmad Bradshaw (foot), Hakeem Nicks (hamstring), David Baas (knee) and Osi Umenyiora (shoulder), all nursing injuries, it’s very unlikely that New York can come away with a win.

However, do I think this game is going to be a blowout, like the NFL point spreads indicate? No, sir! I think this will be a closer game than people anticipate and thus, I would play the Giants to lose by less than the projected 10 points. Take the Giants at +10!
