Oklahoma State vs Texas NCAA Football Predictions Week 7

by Jonathan Pou on Saturday, October 15th, 2011

The No.23 Texas Longhorns (4-1, 1-1 Big 12) will still be licking their wounds when they host the Oklahoma State Cowboys (5-0, 2-0 Big 12) in a Big 12 NCAA football predictions week 7 matchup at Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium at 3:30pm ET on ABC. The Longhorns are coming off a 55-17 loss at the hands of No.3 Oklahoma and this contest is not going to be any easier for Mack Brown’s squad. The Longhorns were rolling along at 4-0 before Landry Jones decided to light them up in the 2011 Red River Shootout at Cowboys’ stadium. Texas will now have to deal with Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden and All-Pro wide receiver Justin Blackmon. The Cowboys are penciled in as 8-point road favorites in this conference matchup and because I believe that Oklahoma State’s offense cannot be stopped by any team in the country, except maybe Alabama, I’m taking the Cowboys against the spread with one of my college football betting predictions this weekend.

Oklahoma State has won only three times in 25 matchups against Texas dating back to 1916, claiming just two victories in 16 trips to Austin. The Cowboys, however, used their high-powered offense to register a 33-16 win there on November 13th 2010, and if Oklahoma State wins this NCAA football predictions week 7 matchup, then they will make it two road victories in a row over Texas. Before last year’s win, the Cowboys had not beaten the Longhorns on the road 1944, so perhaps this is a new era for Oklahoma State football. The Cowboys have been putting up points at a very impressive rate (51.4 ppg) and after the huge letdown in week 6 for Texas, I like Oklahoma State to cover their college football spreads easily.

This game is a must-win for Texas because it would be their second conference loss of the season. With teams like Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and even Baylor looking so strong, two losses in the Big 12 pretty much means you are out of it. The Longhorns’ college football lines at Bodog Sportsbook have been staggering by the week and after they lose again in week 7, their National Championship and Conference Championship hopes will be all but over.
