The Green Bay Packers’ 23-16 win over the New York Giants put an end to another wacky Sunday of 2016 NFL action. As we prepare to go over the opening NFL odds and issue our week 6 early NFL predictions, it’s worth noting that the current division leaders are: (4-1) Patriots [East], (4-1) Steelers [North], (3-2) Texans [South] and (4-1) Raiders [West] in the AFC, while the NFC is led by the (4-1) Cowboys [East], (5-0) Vikings [North], (4-1) Falcons [South] and (3-1) Seahawks [West].
Also, NFL betting aficionados should also take note of the fact that the two teams sitting out Week 6 due to byes will be the aforementioned Vikes and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. With a record of 1-3 on the year, these division rivals find themselves in a three-way tie for second place in the AFC South with the Carolina Panthers and New Orleans Saints.
With that out of the way, we are ready to reveal the opening point spreads for Week 6 of the 2016 NFL season, as well as our (weekly) early pro football predictions. This week, the two games on my mind have a theme behind them, as they could be summarized with “All good things must come to an end.” That’s because in both instances, I will be picking against the team that comes in riding a long win streak, and in this instance, four will be the unlucky number.
(4-1) Dallas Cowboys [+4] vs. (3-1) Green Bay Packers [-4]: Riding a four-game win streak, rookie quarterback, Dak Prescott and the Cowboys travel to historic Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin, for a sobering experience against Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. Opening kickoff is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET and it will be broadcast live on CBS Sports. According to NFL odds makers, the home team will open up as a four-point favorite in Week 6 and the OVER/UNDER is set at a combined total of 46 points. While most people will look at this game as a showdown between a pair of signal-callers, I’m more intrigued by Dallas’ league-leading rushing attack (155.2 rypg) going up against Green Bay’s top-ranked rushing defense (42.8 rypg).
2016 Week 6 NFL Predictions: Packers [-4]
(4-1) Atlanta Falcons [+6] vs. (3-1) Seattle Seahawks [-6]: Another team that’s raised some eyebrows in this 2016 NFL season due to a blistering start is the Atlanta Falcons. Much like in the case of the 2016 Cowboys, Matt Ryan & Co. will also be putting their four-game win streak on the line by traveling to a very tough place to play, as they face the notorious “12th Man.” CenturyLink Field in Seattle, Washington, will be rocking Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET for a showdown that will be broadcast live on FOX. A pair of field goals separates these teams in the pro football odds department with the hosts being the favorites and an OVER/UNDER of 46 points to go with it. Thus far, the Falcons’ offense has been unstoppable, coming into Week 6 of the 2016 NFL season ranked first in points per game (35.0), total yards (457.4) and passing yards per game (333.4). However, the Dirty Birds will have to prove themselves worthy of those rankings when they face the Hawks’ defense, which currently ranks first in the NFL in total yards allowed (264.0), second in passing yards (183.8) and third in point per game surrendered (13.5).
