The Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, La., will be the site for this week 4 edition of Monday Night Football on ESPN, as the Dolphins and Saints meet in an NFL picks showdown.
According to NFL oddsmakers, the Saints come into this game favored to walk away undefeated. Experts give the visiting Fins a +7-point cushion going into a hostile environment to take on a very talented Saints (-7) team.
In addition to the NFL professional picks, the OVER/UNDER tallied out at a combined total of 48.5 points and straight up lines have Miami at +260 and New Orleans at -320.
For the Dolphins, this team has been one of the most pleasant surprises after three weeks. With victories over the Browns, Colts and Falcons, Ryan Tannehill & Co. are proving to be a factor in this years AFC East picture.
After getting off to the franchise’s best start in 11 years, Miami is tied for first place in the division with the New England Patriots. This team has done it with offense and defense, as Tannehill has carried the load offensively, while Miami’s secondary ranks third in the league in interceptions with five.
However, remaining undefeated will prove to be a very tall task against a Saints team that’s playing with a chip on its shoulder after last year’s debacle.
Not only is New Orleans as strong as it’s ever been offensively, but the addition of defensive coordinator, Rex Ryan and his 3-4 alignment has jump-started a defense once-left for dead.
I believe that this game is going to come down to which team is able to play the best defense. While everyone knows Drew Brees is perhaps the best quarterback in the league, he will have to be very careful going up against the Dolphins’ no-name defensive secondary.
If Miami can make this game as ugly of an event as possible, they will have a real chance to not only cover, but perhaps even win the game.
Having that said, containing Brees and his receivers is like dealing with a different animal, especially at the Louisiana Superdome. I find it very hard to believe that the Dolphins can avoid getting blown out by less than the projected NFL odds point spreads of a TD and a point-after in this one.
