We are counting down the days until Super Bowl 48, and as such, this would seem like an opportune time to analyze the Most Valuable Player props for the big game.
I know that most headlines revolve around the fact that this is the best defense in the NFL taking on the No.1 ranked offense in the league. However, this matchup is a heck of a lot more.
This is not only the best attack versus stiffest resistance, this is also a battle of the inexperienced against the seasoned, and could go down as one of the most contrasting matchups in recent free Super Bowl predictions history.
On one side you have Pete Carroll, a head coach who has succeeded at every level by finding a way to reinvent himself. Across the sidelines will be John Fox, a guy who has also competed in the collegiate level, but is looking to make his mark in the pros.
There’s no question that the coach who can best utilize his personnel, will not only hoist the Lombardi Trophy, but will also produce the nest Super Bowl MVP. And while Peyton Manning is the obvious candidate in this category, most Broncos fans would be surprised to know that three Seahawks top two Broncos in the top-5 frontrunners.
Obviously, Manning leads the way as the favorite to win his second Super Bowl ring and second SB MVP at 11/10 odds. Next on the list is the Seahawks’ quarterback-running back duo of, Marshawn Lynch and Russell Wilson, who are both knotted by at 15/4 odds apiece.
Now it’s when it gets tricky. Most people would likely have Sherman or Moreno listed with the fourth best odds to win Super Bowl 48 MVP. However, prop bets oddsmakers at Bovada Sportsbook list multi-purpose player, Percy Harvin as next in line.
According to the latest odds, the former Minnesota Viking is a 16/1 contender to take home the hardware, ahead of a fifth-place tie between Knowshon Moreno (20/1) and Richard Sherman (20/1). How surprising is for a guy that has barely played this season to be listed this high?
The funny part is that, I haven’t even mentioned Denver’s top receivers Wes Welker, and/or Demaryius Thomas. Also flying under the radar is one of the best cornerbacks in the history of the league, as Champ Bailey is being completely overlooked, as is kicker Matt Prater and Seattle’s key wide outs Golden Tate and Doug Baldwin.
