Fedor Emelianenko vs Antonio Silva Fight Strikeforce Grand Prix Betting Odds

by Abe Luciano on Friday, February 11th, 2011

On Saturday night, Strikeforce will be hosting the World Grand Prix Heavyweight Tournament and it will bring together Fedor "The Last Emperor" Emelianenko [-370] and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva [+270] for the huge main event.  The event will take place in East Rutherford, NJ starting at 10 PM ET from IZOD Center, and will be a single-elimination tournament.

Emelianenko has been considered one of the best heavyweights in MMA Betting Odds, but his last win came in November of 2009 against Brett Rogers. The 34-year old Russian’s last fight was not a success, as he lost to Fabricio Werdum in June of 2010 in just 69 seconds. Werdum caught Emelianenko with a triangle armbar, making it his second overall loss in his 11-year career. So does he feel any added pressure coming into this fight against Silva?

"Nothing has changed," Emelianenko said. "My training, exercise and weight have stayed the same. I’ve continued to do the same things. I can’t say that this loss has changed anything in me, that I was broken in any way. I don’t feel any pressure going into this fight; maybe some relief.”

Emelianenko will be going up against 31-year-old Silva, who is set to have 30-40 pounds on the Russian when he enters the cage on Saturday. Silva is hoping that this fight will be able to clear his tarnished image as a fighter, after having been suspended in July of 2008 by the California State Athletic Commision.

Silva tested positive for a banned substance, but he has fought the allegations for almost three years now saying claiming that the substance was caused by a supplement. The former Elite XC Champion’s last fight was on December 4th, when he defeated light heavyweight Mike Kyle.
