New York Knicks vs Miami Heat Free NBA Playoff Predictions

by Blake Stevens on Wednesday, May 9th, 2012

After failing to get it done on the road, the (3-1) Miami Heat [-11] return home with an opportunity to close out the (1-3) New York Knicks [+11] at the American Airlines Arena tonight. Game 5 of this best-of-seven, free NBA playoff predictions series is scheduled to get underway this evening at 7 PM ET live on TNT Sports.

“You carry it with you 24 hours, you go over what needs to be done, you correct it and you get rid of it,” said LeBron James in regards to Miami’s inability to sweep the short-handed Knicks. “That’s not saying that you don’t care about it but you’ve got to move on to the next game. You can’t let it linger too much and carry that game into Game 5. So Game 4 for us is over. We’re preparing for Game 5 now.”

According to free NBA playoff predictions specialists, Miami and New York are projected to combine and score an OVER/UNDER total of 183 points. For those that love betting on the point total, these teams have combined to score: 167 points in game one, 198 in game two, 157 points in game three and 176 points in game four.

When you add all those together and divide them by the amount of games they’ve played thus far, we get an average of 174½ points, which would lead me to lean towards the UNDER tonight.

What do you think it’s going to happen tonight: can Miami close out the Knickerbockers?

To put it in simple terms, not only do the Knicks need a miracle to come all the way back from 0-3 to win this series, but statistics say that they would need something close to that just to extend the series to another game.

Out of the 101 teams that have fallen to a 0-3 hole in NBA playoff predictions’ history, only 10 have been able to fight off elimination twice. For those of you that like numbers, that’s a whopping 10%, so stats are certainly not in the Knicks’ favor. Want to read another stat that’s against the Metropolitans?

Miami finished the regular season tied with the best home record in the league with the Western Conference top-seeded, San Antonio Spurs. At the Triple-A, the Heat finished with an incredible 28-5 mark. With an opportunity to put this team out of its misery, betting against Miami tonight is a very tough proposition. For Carmelo Anthony, who’s coming off another 40-point performance in this series, he wouldn’t want it any other way!

“That’s the exciting part for me," he said. “I mean, history is definitely not on our side right now. But we believe and we’re confident that we want to go down there and win this basketball game and bring it back here. We get this one, who knows what can happen.”

OSH free NBA predictions: Taking into account the aforementioned Knicks vs Heat Betting Odds, I’m having a little bit of a difficult time believing Miami could win this game by 12 points or more. Numbers certainly point to Miami being a very safe bet by 11, considering they’ve beaten the Knicks by an average of 21½ points.

However, that figure is highly influenced by the fact that the Heat won the opener by 33 points. In conclusion, I like the UNDER in this game and the smart bet would be to take Miami [-11] over NYC!
