Getting no love from 2012 NCAA tournament oddsmakers, the North Carolina Tar Heels [+2] will have to defy probabilities versus a Kansas Jayhawks [-2] team favorite to advance to the Final Four. UNC literally has gone from one of the Final Four frontrunners, to all of the sudden being undermanned and underestimated by all… which is exactly the way they want it! Are we in for yet another 2012 NCAA upset tonight? It’s going to be a dandy of a game to close out the Elite Eight bracket picks 2012!
Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, MO, will be the site for this regional finals contest, which has an OVER/UNDER total of 143 points. The opening tip off is scheduled for 5:05 PM ET and it’ll be broadcasted live nationally on CBS.
Not only do these teams matchup very well against one another — which makes it for a great basketball game — but the main underlying subplot is also a very interesting one as well. The fact that Roy Williams will be taking on his former team will be a very emotional experience. In fact, the two-time NCAA national champion head coach would rather play anyone in the country than Kansas.
“That was 15 years of my life that I tried to give everything,” Williams said in retrospect on Saturday. “I don’t think it’ll ever feel good for me, regardless of the outcome. I don’t think I’ll ever feel comfortable with it.” Get the best UNC vs Kansas betting odds right here!!!
But with no time for melancholy, Williams is going to have to find a way to overcompensate for not having his starting point guard on the floor tonight. Kendall Marshall, who will literally be a game-time decision tonight, has participated in team practices following his surgery last Sunday.
“Today is the first day he bounced the ball, today is the first day he caught a ball, today is the first day he shot a ball,” Williams added. “We kept him out of all the live stuff. One, he has to feel comfortable that he’s not hurt, and two, I have to decide can he be effective in a game with his situation.”
Although it would be hard to imagine that he could give it a go and actually be effective out there, he’s yet to rule out that possibility. In a race against time, Marshall understands that the difference between winning and losing could rest on his ability to play through the pain of a fractured wrist. This certainly makes coming up with an Elite Eight bracket picks 2012 for this game that much more challenging.
"If it comes down to I’m not able to help my team and the best thing is for me to be in a suit, then that’s what it’ll be, and I’ll still contribute the best I can," he said. "The range of motion is getting gradually better every day, and that’s a positive sign. There’s been tremendous improvement every 24 hours."
