Vermont vs North Carolina NCAA Bracket Picks 2012

by Blake Stevens on Friday, March 16th, 2012

Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, NC, will play host to this afternoon’s NCAA bracket picks 2012 battle between the Vermont Catamounts [+15.5] and the Midwest region’s top-seeded North Carolina Tar Heels [-15.5].

This NCAA tournament second round game is scheduled to tipoff today at 4:10 PM ET on ESPN. According to NCAA bracket picks 2012 specialists, Vermont and North Carolina will combine and score an OVER/UNDER of 144 points.

For the Catamounts, this will be their second game if the tournament after defeating Lamar, 71-59 in the First Four. Behind Four McGlynn’s 18 points and Brian Voelkel’s 12 rebounds, Vermont earned a date with the top-seeded Tar Heels. With UNC listed as 15.5-point favorite, the catamounts are not only convinced they’re the team to bet on, but they even believe they are capable of pulling off the upset today.

“Obviously, North Carolina is one of the best teams in the country,” said Vt first-year coach John Becker. “They’ve got a roster of future NBA stars. We’re just going to do what we do — continue to play our brand of basketball.”

For the Tar Heels, their disappointing loss to Florida State on the conference tournament finals didn’t cost them the top seed in the tournament. Some say that the reason why UNC lost the in the championship game is much more severe than the actual “L”.

The fact that junior forward John Henson has an injured wrist could prove to be detrimental in North Carolina’s hopes of going all the way. Much like in the conference title game, Henson’s absence was greatly felt. Many believe that game would have gone the other way if he hadn’t been injured.

“We are extremely disappointed that we lost to Florida State today and did not win the ACC tournament,” said coach Roy Williams after the loss to FSU. “But we are also extremely pleased that the NCAA selection committee felt we deserved a No. 1 seed. It’s a long, long year and for the most part our club has performed very well all season. Now, we start a completely new season, and everyone starts even.”

OSH free NCAA tournament pick: I believe Vermont will play a very good game and keep things at arm’s length. Although I believe the Tar Heels will prevail, my play is to take the Catamounts’ NCAA bracket odds at +15.5!
