2011 NLCS: Cardinals vs Brewers Game 6 MLB Playoff Picks

by Anthony Cashman on Sunday, October 16th, 2011

Ron Roenicke sure hopes all the hard work his team did throughout the regular season to earn home-field advantage in the playoffs pays off. Staring at elimination, the (2-3) Milwaukee Brewers [-1½] return to Miller Park to try and stop the momentum of the (3-2) St. Louis Cardinals [+1½] have generated.

Game 6 of this MLB Playoff picks best-of-seven series is scheduled to get underway this evening at 8:05 PM ET live on TBS Sports. This means that those of you that are fans of the “The X-Factor” can now watch it peacefully on FOX, thanks to the Texas Rangers…

On the hill tonight, we will have a very interesting pitching matchup, as Milwaukee’s RHP Shaun Marcum (2011 playoffs: 0-2, 12.46 ERA) takes the mound in a must-win game for Roenicke and the Brews.

"I have a lot of confidence in our guys," Roenicke. "They are confident at home. We can win two ballgames at home."

Countering, Cards skipper Tony LaRussa will send a former All-Star in hard-throwing right-hander, Edwin Jackson (2011 playoffs: 1-0, 3.48 ERA). As a direct result of this pitching matchup, MLB odds experts believe that the Cardinals and Brewers will combine and score an OVER/UNDER total of 8½ runs this evening. This means that oddsmakers believe this might turn into a slugfest tonight…

"There isn’t one person in here who wouldn’t want to take the ball," Jackson said. "We’re going to go out and have some fun. That’s what we’ve been doing the whole second half. We’re going to leave it all out and take our chances of winning the ballgame. We have a good chance to go in and take one out of two," Jackson said. "We like our chances. We’re going to go in and have some fun."

My 2011 NLCS Game 6 MLB Playoff Picks: I still like the Redbirds in the World Series against the Rangers, but how they’ll get there is the tricky part. Looking at tonight’s pitching matchup, the Cards have an immediate advantage, but a desperate team is always a dangerous and unpredictable one. But, if I had to play it safe, I would say this will either be a complete blowout, or a one-run game, nothing in between. Therefore, being safe, I would take the Cardinals with a cushion of +1½ tonight.
